With import and export limited, many communities in developing countries have lost all their income at once. Women are often the most affected, as they are usually responsible for all childcare and household tasks as well as struggling to overcome gender barriers in many traditional cultures.

Fair Trade Community Enterprise does fantastic work to highlight and address these problems. They provide education and training for men and women alike and ensure women have the same leadership opportunities as men. Workers are paid fairly and equally, and the organisation works to challenge gender stereotypes in the workplace and elsewhere.

We work with a wonderful supplier in Sri Lanka who is dedicated to following Fair Trade principles and being an equal opportunities employer. They set up in 1991 with 15 female employees and now employ hundreds of workers.
